Let's Make Waves!

I have to say, I'm really excited about this project. I learned how to crochet last year and honestly didn't know if it was one of those things that I would stick with. Usually a new endeavor for me lasts about 6 months and if I continue with it after that time, it's usually a keeper. Well, I'm proud to say I've been crocheting on and off for over a year now and it is truly one of the most relaxing things I do. I'd much rather pick up a crochet project (I'll admit, a mindless one) at the end of a long day than turn on the tv. I don't have much to show for my crochet craftiness other than a handful of miscellaneous hats that aren't meant for anyone and whose ends are still dangling (I still can't quite figure out how to prevent the ends from sticking out even after weaving in). And I have my "stress" squares that I work on when I really really need to unwind. Honestly, the thought of chaining something over 40 gave me heart palpitations.

So, this is why I'm so proud of this one! I saw some wavy / ripple crochet blankets recently (maybe on sew mama sew?) - and decided to give it a go. It's more of a lap blanket, but I did chain 150 to start! This is for my oldest daughter's room. I wish I could show a nice pretty basket of yarn, but my darling 9 month old cocker loves it when I leave yarn out. I have a hard enough time keeping it nice and tidy during a project, so it's quite impossible when he gets a hold of it.

I'll post the finished product when I'm done. I would love to see yours! Feel free to link in your post.

Birthday Gift

Since making my oldest daughter a purse for her birthday, she has been proudly announcing to her friends that I made it and that I could make them one too. I love that she thinks what I make is something special...it sort of makes me chuckle - especially when I see at all of the amazing and talented folks out there who make amazing and inspiring things. I was looking at some handbags on Etsy the other night in utter awe. Emma, looking over my shoulder kept saying - "Mom, YOU do that, you can do that!". Leave it to my 9 year old to give me a boost of confidence. I love it that my girls are proud of me and it does inspire me to be more creative for their sakes. In any case, I worked on this one late last night and finished it up today. I think it came out kinda cute (it's petite, which the photo doesn't really show - 7 1/2w x 8"h (w/out straps). I did scribble down the dimensions as I cut - which means I can make another! I could see a bunch of these lined up in different summery fabrics.
